Motivational Growth Makes Its Way To The Steam Store On March 31

Devolver Digital Films has announced that it will release Motivational Growth film on the Steam Store on March 31 for $4.79.

From the Press Release
Devolver Digital Films announced today that the indie game publisher/film distributor will release its cult movie title Motivational Growth on the Steam Store next Tuesday, March 31st at 9:00 AM PST for a launch sale price of $4.79 USD (40% off the title’s regular Steam Store price of $7.99 USD). The video-game inspired independent comedy/sci-fi film will be available worldwide, DRM-free on the platform, which is known primarily for its dominance as the world’s most widely-used computer game destination. The film is the first movie title Devolver has sold on the platform, and is the first non-documentary feature to ever be featured on the Steam Store.

Devolver Digital Co-Founder and Partner Mike Wilson says, "This moment is largely why Devolver started picking up great indie films off the festival circuit two years ago. We believe the global community of discovery and curation that exists on Steam and had allowed indie game development to flourish could become the best thing to ever happen to digital film distribution as well."

Motivational Growth features cult legend Jeffrey Combs (Re-Animator, From Beyond) as the voice of The Mold, a talking fungus which has taken up residence in the bathroom of Ian DeFalivor (Adrian DiGiovanni). Ian is a depressed recluse whose beloved television set has just died; after a botched suicide attempt, he begins to take life advice from the smooth-talking chunk of aspergillus in the 104-minute game- and pop culture-inflected joyride.

Director and Screenwriter Don Thacker is also a game designer; his resume includes Pixeljam, XGen Studios, Robot Loves Kitty, Rocketcat Games, and TOO DX. His latest, the retro-sexy point-and-click adventure shooter Starr Mazer, just notched a successful round of funding on Kickstarter. Amidst a wildly successful festival tour for Motivational Growth, Thacker shopped carefully before settling on signing with Devolver. “Devolver Digital made perfect sense for this movie since I knew their games and their reputation. When they said they would work to get Motivational Growth released on Steam, that nailed it.” About Tuesday’s release after two years of waiting, he says, “I’m so excited I could swallow my own face.”

2015 marks the 13th anniversary of Valve's first public announcement of Steam, which has since become the leading platform for PC, Mac, and Linux games and software. In the last year, Steam realized the addition of many new services and features - including In-Home Streaming, Broadcasting, Music, and user-created stores - as it grew to over 125 million active accounts worldwide.

Based in Austin, Texas, Devolver Digital distributes independent video games and films from creators around the world. Devolver Digital’s outspoken passion for indie games, developers, and fans has earned the company no minor measure of game industry notoriety; with its expansion into film distribution, announced at South by Southwest 2013, the company has brought its fiercely creative devotion and digital content expertise to support and celebrate indie filmmakers and projects.
