Elsword is a fun game that uses the 2.5D mechanics in order to provide you with a very interesting, catchy and appealing beat-em-up that you are going to enjoy. The thing I like about this game the most is the fact that it’s a side scroller, and this does manage to simplify the game mechanics quite a lot.
So, the main idea is simple, you traverse the game world from left to right trying to stay alive in the process and you need to engage all the enemies in order to complete a variety of quests.
Within Elsword you can find both PVP as well as PVE gameplay, which is really good, but it seems that the main focus is on PVE with the former being left out for quite a lot. Just like most other MMOs, the game is focused specifically on gameplay with the help of role playing elements and a lot of cool classes. You can try to enter guilds if you want or chat with others, and guilds can combat with each other, but for me this resulted in so many people on the screen at the same time that the computer froze for a little bit. So yes, the gameplay can get quite hectic in PVP.
When it comes to PVE, the gameplay is simple and fun, and the combat is pretty much similar all the time, since you tap the keys, kill the enemies and move on. It can get a little repetitive and boring, true that, but the game does bring in a lot of value and I love it specifically for that purpose. Sure, you might repeat stuff, but you do gain levels and your character grows because of that. So this just makes the experience a lot faster, better quality and more alert.
Having a few other people in your guild is quite impressive since they do help you quite a lot during the attacks and especially during the boss fights. Yes, there are quite a lot of interesting bosses in the game, and they do require attention and tactics. So despite being a side scroller, the game does manage to bring in a strategy element to the entice experience, so it’s really cool to be honest, and I enjoy it because of that.
Each level is split in specific portions, and each one of them brings you a clear set of challenges. Some levels have 10 portions, some more, but the reality is that each level will have a larger, more demanding boss fight where your team needs to do all its best. Cooperation is key during the larger fights, but thankfully each of the characters has its own set of skills so the action can be pretty hectic sometimes as you play.
Graphically, Elsword is one of the most interesting games I played recently. It has the wonderful anime theme but that’s combine with a truly unique set of backgrounds, cute and sometimes scary enemies and a wide range of other cool stuff.
In conclusion, I found Elsword to be one of the most interesting anime themed games. The brawler element included in this game is truly stellar, but the side scrolling, the ability to interact and kill enemies and grow your character is what makes you coming back to this. The game has a lot of value and a ton of potential, so I do recommend you to give this game a try, it’s indeed one of the best games that you can ever play, just give it a shot and you will love it.
Score: 8 out of 10
