Moribund Review (PC)

Traptics has released Moribund for PC.

Moribund is a 4-player local multiplayer game that takes place in a post-apocalyptic environment. A highly aggressive strain of fungi has destroyed most of life as we know it, and it is up to you to stop it. Your weapon has two firing modes and once it is stunned then you can break out your harpoon to finish the job.

After choosing one of the playable characters, gamers step into an arena and the battle begins. A big issue with the game right off the bat is the fact it lacks online play—which is something a game of this nature drastically needs. Moribund goes out of its way to try and be overly violent. While this works for the game at times, there are other times which it doesn’t. The 2D graphics go well with the gameplay, but in the end, takes away from the overall impact that I think the developers were going for.

The level design was balanced with the game starting out very easy and quickly moving to more challenging maps. However, I found that the controls weren’t as responsive and tight as they should have been, making some levels harder than normal. The game was designed to be played with friends via its local multiplayer but there is also the option to play solo. The solo part of the game then puts in AI as your opponents and this part of the game is terrible. The AI are not balanced and it is basically impossible to play a game using it.

Moribund has some good aspects to it that could have been enjoyable since it has decent level design and progression mechanics. But in the end, Moribund has too many flawed components hindering the game’s overall performance. To learn more, visit the official Moribund website.

Features:
  • 15 super hard single player challenges.
  • A wide variety of multiplayer levels (80 levels split over 8 settings, each with its own graphical environment, mechanics, and music track).
  • Two multiplayer game modes (Free for all and Team battle).
  • Eight characters each with his own unique personality and voice acting.
  • Several stage mechanics promising unique and hilarious deaths.
  • The glorious rag doll. The pillar of the game allowing ever-unique dismemberments and deaths.
