Double 2 Review (Tech)

Double Robotics is making it easier to work remotely for busy telecommuters.

The Double 2 is changing the future of how we work and is an innovative tool for bringing any company's remote workers into the office. Unlike traditional videoconferencing, Double 2 allows for a revolutionary new level of interaction between the remote worker and their team.

One thing I have found when trying to work with some of our remote writers is that it can be hard to set up a time to call or video chat. The Double 2 changes the way you interact with remote workers or students by allowing them to freely roam around the building like they are really there.

The Double 2 only requires an iPad and the Double app to allow anyone to control the teleconferencing robot. The robot is fairly priced, depending on what all you want included with your Double 2, you can expect to pay anywhere from $2,499 to $3,499.

BioGamer Girl used the Double 2 at a trade show and found it to be very interactive allowing customers to interact with our brand anywhere at the event while our team remained at the booth. We were able to use the robot to travel around the convention center all from the comfort of our designated area.

There were a few small issues when operating the Double 2, due to a low-quality Wi-Fi connection, which caused us to lose connection to the robot on occasion. Also, if we had tried to move the robot during the interruption, then all of actions would suddenly catch up when it had a good signal again causing it to fall over or bump into things.

All-in-all, the Double 2 proved to be a great alternative for people looking to work remotely while still having a physical presence. If you have been looking for a way to retain valuable employees even when they move away, then the Double 2 might be something to look into for your organization. Our Opinion: Must-Buy

Features:

  • Lateral Stability Control: Lateral Stability Control is a shock absorption mechanism built in the base to maintain lateral stability while traversing common obstacles in an office or classroom setting, such as cords, bumps, or a change in threshold.
  • Power Drive: Power Drive enables the robot to go up to 80% faster than normal driving speed, when the driver needs to go a long distance. Simply hold down the Shift key on your keyboard while driving with the arrow keys.
  • Camera Kit: Camera Kit includes a 150 degree wide-angle lens that increases the field of view by 70% on both the left and right sides! It's a 5 megapixel camera, so you can take much higher resolution photos to see the details. Camera Kit enables the Always-on Floor View for increased spatial awareness and no need to take time switching between camera views. Adaptive HD is a new technique that we've developed to favor smooth video when moving and higher resolution (up to HD!) when you're still. The Camera Kit accessory was developed to be backwards compatible with first generation Double units, so you can get the wide field of view, Always-on Floor View, and Adaptive HD for just $249. Camera Kit plugs into the iPad's Lightning connector. It is recommended using an iPad Air 2, 2017 iPad, or iPad Pro (9.7"), although an iPad Air or iPad 4 will also work, but with only some features and at lower resolution.
