Impact Winter Review (PC)

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. and Mojo Bones. have released Impact Winter for PC.

Impact Winter takes players on an immersive journey through a frozen world full of unpredictability and surprises. Gamers step into the shoes of Jacob Solomon who is the leader of a team trying to survive a horrible asteroid collision. It is up to you to keep your team alive for 30 days until help arrives.

Impact Winter is a chilling survival game that puts a group of survivors in a very desperate situation. After a asteroid collision, the team finds that the debris has blocked out the sun causing an insane drop in temperature. The disaster has wiped out almost everything and only a handful of people have survived. You soon find that supplies are very limited as you try to survive in a church with four other characters.

A mysterious radio transmission says that help is arriving in 30 days, but players must survive the extreme temperatures and lack of supplies. Of course, your first task in Impact Winter is to explore the frozen terrain and try to find the necessary supplies to keep your team alive. It almost seems like the white wasteland goes on and on with no end in sight.

As you make your way across the frozen tundra, you soon find other survivors who will give you quests in order to gain rescue points. These points help take time off of the rescue timer and gets help to you even sooner. Gamers also have a robot named AKO Light that helps scan and carry the supplies you find while warning you of impeding danger. However, the more you use AKO Light, the faster his battery depletes. You are then stuck with having to haul him back to your base camp.

All of the survivors in Impact Winter have their own set of skills and personalities. These characters can also help you create better items for surviving which is a big help as well. A big aspect of gameplay is resource management and is a key to your survival. There are a lot of tough decisions to be made along the way, and your decisions can impact the way your story turns out. The combat in Impact Winter is minimal and only occurs when you come across other hungry animals looking to survive.

The phenomenal soundtrack and intricate visuals really help immerse players into Impact Winter's plot. However, the game's clunky controls would break immersion on occasion since they weren't as tight and responsive as they should have been. The game also had very long loading times in between transitions that got a little annoying as the game went on.

All-in-all, Impact Winter had a sold premise despite a few minor hiccups that made the game feel immersive and fun. If you have been looking for a entertaining strategy game that takes place in a beautifully detailed world, look no further than Impact Winter.
