PlayWay has released The Way on Xbox One. Read on.
The Way is a 2D Puzzle platformer game that tells the intriguing story about a space explorer member who has lost his beloved can't come to terms with her death. Our protagonist finds some ancient writings on eternal existence during an expedition and finds himself coming back to it to try to find the meaning of life.
The Way was inspired by classics like Another World, Heart of Darkness, and Flashback. The game's graphics are very old school and give you a lovely flashback to retro games of the past. After starting the game, players will come incredibly immersed in The Way's amazing science fiction story.
As you make your way across the varied environments in The Way, you will come across a slew of mind bending puzzles that offer up a unique gameplay experience each time. You are trying to bring back Tom's wife, and the answer is that of immortality. Can you search the planet and find an answer to your grief?
The intro animation for The Way is very disturbing. Tom stands across from his wife's grave, then digs up her corpse, and transports it to a secure base to steal a ship. The pixel based art really adds to the story's immersion level, and you will make your way across various regions on the planet. There are a ton of areas to explore that includes jungles, deserts, and many more.
The Way has 'a way' of keeping you engaged with various puzzles that evolve rapidly over the course of the game. As you progress, you will learn new mechanics that will help you solve puzzles and progress through the story. Just like older games, The Way is very punishing when it comes to platform mechanics and the checkpoint system can get very annoying. No one likes to make it through most of a puzzle, just to die, and be taken back to the beginning of that puzzle.
In the end, The Way is a fun and engaging game that has very intriguing puzzle aspects. Despite the fact the game can get annoying with its checkpoints and punishing mechanics, The Way still manages to offer up an overall enjoyable experience on Xbox One.
