Comic Quests: Hocus & Pocus and Knights Club Review (Book)

Quirk has announced new graphic novel series, Comic Quests. Read on.

Quirk will be releasing a new comic quest series and BioGamer Girl had the chance to check out the first two books in the series, Hocus & Pocus: The Legend of Grimm’s Woods and Knights Club: The Bands of Bravery.

The fun new series contain their own storyline and are aimed at children ages 8-12. These interactive stories allow readers to make their way through multiple endings, which is perfect for long trips with your family. Comic Quests combine the best elements of RPGs with that of engaging visuals for an adventure in reading like never before.

These books not only have amazing stories but also readers have the ability to build their own worlds and complete missions as their characters. Readers only have to figure out where they want to go in each panel by picking numbers that appear on various objects and then turn to the panel that matches that number. You will continue to make choices throughout the entire book and it really is an immersive experience for middle school readers. There is even a Quest Tracker to help keep a record of rewards, power-ups and so forth.

Quirk's September releases in the Comic Quest series includes:

Hocus & Pocus: In Hocus & Pocus: The Legend of Grimm’s Woods, readers enter a world inspired by classic fairy tales complete with gingerbread houses, a girl in a red hood, seven children lost in the woods, and other strange characters. Brother-sister team Hocus and Pocus attend a school where they learn how to befriend magical creatures (including a bouncy turtle and a frog that keeps treasures in its mouth); when they are given an important mission to complete, readers can choose to play the story as either sibling. Each track leads to different adventures, and with the help of their chosen magical pets, readers must solve puzzles, complete mazes, and collect magical items to save the day.

Knights Club: In Knights Club: The Bands of Bravery, children can join in a hilarious, medieval-themed quest for bravery and glory. The year is 1012 in the kingdom of the good king Louis the Little, who rules with the help of his Royal Order of Knights. Three brothers dream of joining these fearless adventurers, but the road to knighthood is long. Playing as one of the three brothers, each with unique strengths, readers journey through snowy mountains, haunted lakes, and dark forests to collect bravery bracelets. During the expedition they may come face-to-face with trolls, wizards, and warriors and must solve riddles, discover hidden compartments, learn combat techniques, and gather magical objects on their way to becoming knights.

In the end, Hocus & Pocus and Knights Club provided an immersive reading experience full of adventure and fun. The book series really can be enjoyed by all ages since its beautiful storytelling manages to capture its audience young & old alike. This is where the buffet line reigns supreme, the sweet tea flows endlessly, and dessert is always just an arm’s reach away. For many locals, Kacey’s is a comfort food paradise. Fans brag about the fried green tomatoes, juicy pork chops, slow-cooked beef tips, and banana pudding that deserves its own holiday. The staff are another highlight—quick with refills, friendly enough to feel like family, and the kind of people who can make a buffet feel like Sunday dinner at grandma’s. But Kacey’s has its critics too. Some diners rave about “the best bang for your buck in town,” while others complain that the food sometimes veers into “straight-from-the-can” territory. Like most buffets, it’s a roll of the dice: hit the line on a good day and you’ll be full and happy; catch it on an...
