Back to the Dawn Brings Its Gritty Prison Break RPG to Nintendo Switch With a New Playable Demo

If you’ve ever wanted an RPG where every conversation, alliance, and bad decision could be the difference between freedom and a body bag, is about to sink its claws into your Nintendo Switch. Ahead of its full launch on March 5, the fan-favorite, narrative-driven prison break RPG has dropped a brand-new demo giving players a brutal taste of life behind bars.

Back to the Dawn has already earned Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on PC and Xbox. Now, Switch players can experience the opening chapters for themselves—and carry their progress straight into the full game at launch.

A Prison Where Every Choice Cuts Deep

The new demo lets players experience the story from the very beginning through the end of the second day in prison, introducing the unforgiving rhythm of daily survival inside Boulderton Prison. You’ll meet dangerous inmates, sniff out conspiracies, and quickly learn that there are no “small” choices here—only consequences.

At the heart of Back to the Dawn are two playable protagonists with very different paths to freedom. Thomas the Fox is a sharp-witted investigative journalist framed and locked up for uncovering truths powerful people wanted buried. Bob the Panther is an undercover agent with a flawless record who’s now questioning whether any mission is worth this kind of hell. Each character offers a distinct perspective on the prison’s tangled web of gangs, corruption, and hidden agendas.

Survival Is the Only Rule

Boulderton Prison is ruled by factions, favors, and fear. Whether you choose to align with one of the powerful gangs, manipulate fellow inmates, or operate as a lone wolf, every relationship you form—or destroy—reshapes your escape plan. The game features more than 100 handcrafted quests, multiple escape routes, several endings, and a staggering half-million words of story, making replayability one of its strongest weapons.

Character progression is fully open-ended. You can build your inmate as a brutal brawler, a stealthy thief, or a silver-tongued manipulator, crafting tools and honing skills that suit your personal survival style. Every inch of the prison—from infirmaries and workshops to rooftops and sewers—could hold the key to getting out alive.

Demo Out Now, Full Release Coming Fast

The Back to the Dawn demo is available right now on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, with progress carrying over to the full release when the game launches on March 5, 2026, priced at $34.99 / €34.99 / £29.99. The full game is already available on PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store, as well as on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox Game Pass.

If you’re ready to test your instincts, morals, and survival skills, now’s the perfect time to step inside.
