Dark Souls

Dark Souls is about how death is not the end and being dead is the only way to make in through the demon infested dungeons of this game. Your character in Dark Souls begins the game without a soul, but, as you move through the game, you build up your soul energy.  You will die countless times on your trap-filled quests in order to convalesce the items in which the rulers draw their power, the King's Crowns. There is also the possibility to use the online feature to visit the worlds of other players where you can learn from their mistakes so the same fate won't befall you. You can also use the Beacon Fires to leave tips and warnings for other players on their journey. At the start menu, you select your character, and this is where I chose a female sorceress for mine. Your character starts out in a dungeon where the dead are housed until the end of the world. Once you find the dungeon key to escape, you then have to journey through the Northern Asylum of the Undead.  As you ma...

Season of the Witch (Movie Review)

Season of the Witch was released in 2011 and stars Nicolas Cage. The movie starts out in the City of Vilach in 1235 A.D. with several women being accused of witchcraft and consulting with the Devil.  If they confess then their souls will be spared, and they are then threw off the bridge and hung until dead.  The priest drags the women up out of the water to say last rites over their bodies and then you see that one of the women is an actual witch. So I suppose murdering hundreds to find one witch was the answer in those times.  The story then starts to focus on several battles of soldiers fighting for the Church and after two knights get tired of murdering children and women in the name of God decide to leave. Three years and a season have passed since the plague started in the towns that they visit. After the towns folk find out that the two travelers are more than meets the eye they are taken to the Cardinal and asked to serve the church once more. The mission is to ta...

Feature: Anniversary of the Birth of Mistress Barbie

On November 2010, Mistress Barbie was born. Take a glimpse into how it all started. Synopsis: Well the story starts out, with the typical female lead role, a bimbo blonde who is in an over-sized man’s button up shirt. Of course, she doesn’t have time to get fully clothed before the horror begins, but she had time to put on way too much makeup. Eventually, her clothing comes undone through the movie exposing her bra and/or breasts. Scene: The setting is in an old country town. The infected neighbor girl who is now a zombie comes back to her babysitter’s house, since zombies always return to places that was memorable to them. As the blonde bimbo runs from the zombie child, she is eventually bitten. The bimbo  gets away from the zombie only to find more trouble. Even though blonde bimbo finds a suitable weapon, she fails to use it or carry it with her. So thus, she continues on her journey of running in circles and eventually meets Chainsaw Guy. She falls many times while t...

Dear Mistress Barbie: Advice for the Damned - Childish Things

Dear Mistress Barbie: My name is Chucky and I want to play, but no one seems to want to play with me. I thought people liked to play knife fights from what I see on tv, but most just scream and run away. The other dolls just call me names, and no one wants to play any voodoo games. I had a falling out with my best friend, Andy. I have been trying really hard to reconnect with him, but he just doesn’t understand. I never meant to hurt anyone, I just wanted to kill them. I don’t know what to do. I sure am lonely. Maybe I am coming on too strong? — GOOD GUY IN CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. DEAR GOOD GUY: Maybe you need to tone down your robust behavior. You must remember that what you see on television isn’t always appropriate behavior for little dolls like yourself. You can not just voodoo yourself into people’s lives. Take this time to reflect on your behavior, and maybe Andy will realize the friendship he has lost. Ask the other dolls if they want to play knife fight and if not see...

Dear Mistress Barbie Advice for the Damned: Mother Issues

Dear Mistress Barbie : My name is Jason and I feel I always have to hide my true self. I hide behind masks to disguise the person I have become. As a lonely hermit, I am quickly angered when people disturb me. The worst part is my controlling mother who is always nagging me and it’s driving me crazy. It seems like I am so unlucky, like every day is one long Friday the 13 th . Sometimes I walk along Camp Crystal Lake to try to clear my head but often end up taking my rage out on the people around me. Blaming others for my life problems seem to be better then accepting the truth. I try to find creative ways to express my anger but others are not always as appreciative of my ability to slash through my problems. Often I feel lifeless and realize there are no words that will let me forget or make any of the things I feel go away. I have gone to hell and back trying to keep my secrets buried but they will not stay dead. The terrible nightmares I have keep me up at night. It’s ...

BGG After Dark interviewed Lynch (see Part One here ) and the talented filmmakers about the series. Check out our talk with the three men behind the films below... Sam Balcomb is a multitalented director, well known for being one of the co-founders of Rainfall Films and helming directing the, now notorious, THE LEGEND OF ZELDA trailer for IGN. Dance Central 2 (Video Game Review)

When we last saw Dance Central on the Xbox 360 a year ago, it pretty much jumped to the top of the charts when it came to Kinect game sales. And that’s no surprise, considering it’s just as accessible and entertaining as the last game its developer, Harmonix, made – Rock Band 3. But that was a mere two-step compared to the full-blown tango you’ll experience with Dance Central 2. While the experience in itself is about the same, the extra features and additional songs will leave you toe-tapping with delight. If you’re new to Dance Central, or were one of the unfortunately souls that bought a different dancing game, here’s how it works. On-screen dancers perform their moves on the screen, with the help of a pair of back-up dancers. Prompts appear in the lower half of the screen, showing you what move is coming up next. You’ll mimic this move using your body, and the game will grade you depending on accuracy, using a color-coded ring that lights brighter and brighter depending on your s...

BGG After Dark interviewed Lynch and the talented filmmakers about the series. You can see part one of the talk below… AMANDA DYAR: When taking a closer look at this project, this could only come from the mind of an avid gamer. Have you played the games involved? JOE LYNCH: Of course! Like the directors, I grew up gaming. I evolved from the mall arcade to the Atari and Vectrex, then to NES & Sega Master System, then to Genesis and SuperNES, Dreamcast, Playstation 1 and 2 and so...

Play Games. Heal Kids. Extra Life (Feature)

10,000 gamers have already jumped on board to help kick-off support for the Extra Life cause through the Xbox 360 G3 event that happened last week. The official Extra Life marathon will be held this Saturday, Oct. 15. This cause benefits local kids as the money raised will stay in the community where it was given and will help save the lives of local children. The largest children’s hospital charity is launching a 24-hour video game fundraising marathon called Extra Life.  The event, held on Saturday, Oct.  15, will help save the lives of children at local hospitals.  Each Extra Life participant is asked to raise money by recruiting at least four sponsors to give a minimum of $1 for each hour of the marathon. This fundraiser has extra meaning as it was created to honor the late Victoria Enmon, a 15-year-old girl who played video games during her battle with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Families and friends can join together to play video games for this great cause. ...

Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure (Video Game Preview)

At one point in time, all was right with Spyro the Dragon’s world. The franchise was comfortably in the hands of Insomniac Games, and they produced some quality efforts for the classic PlayStation system. But then that team moved on to greener pastures, between the Ratchet and Clank and Resistance series, while Activision took over Spyro’s territory – and proceeded to make it grow in unnecessary ways. We didn’t need the likes of celebrity voices (Elijah Wood, David Spade) or an “epic” style of game (the last Legend of Spyro), just something that resembled good old-fashioned gameplay. But under the right developer, there is the possibility of throwing in the kind of classic platforming that inspired the series to begin with, along with new tech that takes it in a bold new direction. That’s exactly what Toys For Bob is looking to do with Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure, and the team happily showed us just what kind of progress it’s making when it invited us up to its “tropical” studios, ...
