Super 8 (Movie Review)

J.J. Abrams has been astounding the minds of his fans for years, and the mysterious storylines continue in his new film Super 8 . The film takes place in the Summer of 1979 in a small Ohio town where everything goes from ordinary and boring to straight up bizarre when a train carrying top secret military cargo crashes in the town. The original trailer for the film showed one of the crashed boxcars with an unseen creature banging away on the inside of the container, and the film slowly uncovers the mysterious identity of the creature and why the military is so desperate to get it back without making the town's citizens none the wiser. In the beginning of Super 8 , viewers are introduced to a young boy named Joe (Joel Courtney), who is dealing with the death of his mother after an accident at the local factory. The film then skips ahead some time after the funeral and introduces several other kids that are friends with Joe. The kids are working together to create their own zombie fil...

Saints Row the Third (Video Game Review)

It’s been said that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. And ever since it achieved tremendous success ten years ago, Grand Theft Auto III has been imitated by countless rivals. Some have fared fairly well, while others have tanked badly due to the fact that the developers simply didn’t “get it”. But no clone has managed to topple the king, and with Grand Theft Auto V looming in the distance, it almost seemed like no one ever would.Silly fools. All it takes is the ability to let go and give the player the ability to do everything they ever wanted – even stuff they never dreamed of – and you could have an experience that’s every bit as good as Rockstar’s legendary title. And it looks like, after various attempts with its Saints Row series, THQ has finally done it. The original Saints Row wasn’t bad by any means, but it took its gangster syndrome a little too seriously and, as a result, turned off a few players. Saints Row 2 was much improved, with a sense of humor and much mor...

WoW Trying to Regain Subscribers with Diablo III

Activision/Blizzard's ever popular World of Warcraft is still continuing to lose subscribers. The game had 12 million subscribers this time last year and now stands at 10.3 million players. The game is losing many subscribers from the East and the company has realized that improvements need to be made in the game's content. Following the last big expansion, Cataclysm , where over 1 million players were lost, as experienced players of the game re-opened their accounts, gobbled the content rapidly, and then unsubscribed once again. Blizzard hopes to bring in more subscribers with the next expansion pack, Mists of Pandaria and with the promotion of free copies of the company's upcoming Diablo III which will be included in the annual pass purchase of the game.  Watch Diablo III trailer NOW!

Video Games Saved My Life

G.K. Chesterton once stated, “Fairy-tales are more than true; not because they tell us dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten.” Reading this as a young girl, it changed not only how I viewed life, but how I lived it. As a parent today, I look into the beautiful blue eyes of my children and never want them to shed a single tear of sadness. The pain we experience in life can burrow deep down into every fiber of our muscles and slowly seeps its way into every crevice of our being. Pain is our body’s way of telling us to stop before any more damage can be done. The more we resist the pain, the higher its intensity becomes, but only in that resistance do we develop. Those moments we spend breaking out of the shell are the ones that give us the strength to grow. Millions of people face the challenges of growing up in a household with poor family structure and problematic substance abuse. Those children who grow up in this type of environment are three times ...
