PWNED: How I Became an Xbox 360 Gamer Girl

Gaming for me started at a young age at around six. Our family didn't have a lot of money, so I was super excited when I got my first Nintendo game system. My brother and I stayed up all night playing the original Super Mario Brothers game. The Nintendo platform took me on an amazing journey where I battled to save Princess Toadstool of the Mushroom Kingdom from the evil Bowser. Playing make believe with my Barbie dolls just didn't compare to the intensity and fun that I felt from the game. That is when I traded in my dolls for a gaming controller. That was the turning point that changed me into the person I became. I have always got a lot of grief about being a girl gamer. I remember, as the further I would descend into the levels, my brother would make comments about how I needed to give him the controller before I died. That, as a girl, I wasn't going to be able to beat the game, so naturally, I wanted to prove him wrong. The day I finished off Bowser was the day I ...

The Binding of Isaac: Wrath of the Lamb (Video Game DLC Review)

The Binding of Isaac released in September of last year and brought PC gamers one of the best independent titles of the entire year. For only $5, the game was more that a bargain for gamers, and added another great, if totally strange, title to the growing list of incredibly addictive and challenging titles from developer Edmund McMillen. Now, it's a year later, and the first DLC expansion has arrived for the game. Wrath of the Lamb adds tons of new content to the game and is a no-brainer pickup for those who are already Isaac fans, but if you haven't played the game yet, read on to learn more. The Binding of Isaac tasks you with fighting off hordes of monsters across numerous dungeons armed only with your tears as a weapon. To make things easier, you'll find plenty of items to upgrade your defenses and your ability to fire tear projectiles. The game is played from a top-down view with dungeons laid out very similar to what you'd see in the classic Legend of Zel...

How to Get A Job In Video Game Journalism

When I first started BioGamer Girl --over a year and three months ago--it was just to share my gaming interests with a few friends. I soon turned our online forum into a website and finally a print/online magazine. The next few steps involved creative marketing techniques and tons of hard work. Millions of people are trying to make it in the field of video game journalism yet only a few succeed. In order to have a profitable website that readers will come back to involves writing tons of entertaining articles with well-thought out topics. Do not try to copy every other gaming publication and/or website out there dedicated to video games. You need to stick out and make what you are doing UNIQUE. This is the one part that most all journalists seem to forget in the process. Why would people rather come to your WEBSITE versus the millions of others on the web? Once you make a name for yourself then you need to get yourself out there as much as you can through conventions, video game ev...

Tales of Graces f (Video Game Review)

Tales of Graces f is part of an on-going series of games simply known as Tales. The original Tales of Graces (12th in the Tales series) was released for the Wii back in 2009, but only in Japan. ToG f is a re-installment of the Wii version and the only one available in the US. Unlike many RPGs who throw you right into the midst of battle at the start, Tales takes a much more serene (and adorable) route. You start off playing the main characters (Asbel, Sophie, Cheria, Hubert and Richard) as children. While essentially a slower start than your probably used to, this group of youngsters running around and battling small animals builds into a much larger storyline for the future as well as background for these characters. Action has always been the heart of any Tales battle. While many role-playing games use a standard turn based system, Tales of Graces is more of a free-for-all. It may seem a bit chaotic at first, with enemies and characters running around the map, but it’s one of...

Puzzles, Adventure, Spelunking! SEGA and Double Fine Productions Announce The Cave

An adventure game so odd and compelling that it can only be described as odd and compelling, The Cave will be coming to consoles and PCs for digital download worldwide in early 2013. If you enjoy rappelling, spelunking and dark rocky caverns then be prepared to be disappointed! And then intrigued. And then AMAZED. And then disappointed again, but only for a minute. Then relieved, amused, bewildered, excited and satisfied. In that order. Your first clue that The Cave is a place like no other will come just after you assemble your team of three unlikely adventurers—each with their own unique personalities and skills—and stumble across a subterranean amusement park and a medieval castle, not to mention a fully armed and ready-to-launch nuclear-tipped ICBM. “As SEGA continues to expand our digital gaming catalog, we’ve put a lot of effort into finding truly original experiences we can help bring to life. Possible Release Date Leaked For Upcoming Grand Theft Auto V

One of the great things about modern gaming is that we get to learn things through the Internet long before game publishers and developers intend for consumers to know. In the most recent invasion of business privacy, we learn that the highly anticipated game Grand Theft Auto V may be releasing later in 2012. A member of the XboxSupport Twitter team known as BB is quoted as saying, "Grand Theft Auto 5, will be out later this year ^BB." Here at BioGamer Girl, we're hoping that BB knows what he's talking about, so we can get our greedy little hands on this awesome release sooner than anticipated. We also hope that BB doesn't get fired over spilling the beans all over the Internet for the world to see. While little is known about Rockstar's upcoming game Grand Theft Auto V, we do know it will once again be set in Grand Theft Auto's equivalent of Los Angeles, California known appropriately as Los Santos. In addition, this present day environment is said to b...

Dragon's Dogma (Video Game Review)

It would've been easy to overlook Dragon's Dogma after it was announced last year. Sure, Capcom has released a few stellar action RPGs over the years with the Monster Hunter series, but this was a brand new game with its own mythology from a company that hasn't exactly been completely winning their fans over with their recent releases and business decisions. Still, Dragon's Dogma began looking more impressive every time a new video or a new press release for the game was revealed. Soon, this game went from just a game to purchase simply to get your code for early access to the Resident Evil 6 to what appeared to be another great console RPG from a company that could definitely pull it off. Dragon's Dogma allows you to create your very own character, who is from a little fishing town known as Cassardis in the realm of Gransys. Your character fool heartedly attempts to slay the beast and save the village, but you end up having your heart ripped thro...

Read on for all the details. BIOGAMER GIRL: Spiderweb Software has been independently producing video games since 1994. Can you tell us how the company first started and a little about how far the company has grown since then? Jeff Vogel: Spiderweb Software was something I started in grad school as a way to stay sane. I hated it, so I decided to take a few months off to write a role-playing game called Exile: Escape From the Pit. It came out in January, 1995, and, to my amazement, it sold. Since then, we have been writing games non-stop for Windows, Mac, and now the iPad. We've created over a dozen original RPGs, have three full-time employees, and are having a great time! BIOGAMER GIRL: The Spiderweb Software video game series Avernum is an incredibly entertaining l...
