Street Fighter V Beta Impressions for PS4

Street Fighter is one of my favorite fighting game series, so when I heard that a new one was coming out I went ahead with complete enthusiasm, knowing that it will be good. While the game didn’t release yet, in fact we are a long way from that, I got the opportunity to give a shot to the first beta and here are some of my impressions. First, the beta did encounter some technical difficulties which did hamper the opportunity to try out the game, which is a little unfortunate to be honest. However, once the beta managed to work properly, I got to experience 4 of the 6 characters, as 2 of them are kept for the end of the weekend. However, the cool stuff about the beta is that it does showcase a few locations which are nicely designed in my opinion and, even more than that, they do display a few of the wonderful new gameplay mechanics announced for quite some time now. I feel that the gameplay is more alert now which is a major plus, although there are a few technical issues such ...

The Talos Principle: Road To Gehenna (Video Game Review)

Many consider The Talos Principle as being one of the best puzzle games that appeared last year, and I have to say that this title did have it all. From great puzzles to a philosophical approach to life and a wide range of interesting moments, you could easily find those in it. With The Talos Principle: Road To Gehenna , we now get a fully-fledged expansion that wants to continue the epic story behind the original game. But does this new DLC do justice to the game? Let’s find out! Story We play the role of Uriel once again, and this time we need to explore a different part of the simulation. However, we now need to enter a redemption mission because Elohim feels that he didn’t do justice to the damned souls, and thus we need to free that at all costs. The story is expansive and, based on my experience with the game, truly emotional, which means that you will love it, especially since it does bring in a lot of value on so many levels. Gameplay As I started to play the game, I g...

We recently had the opportunity to chat with Rob about his writing and his new book. Read on to learn more. AMANDA DYAR: You have freelanced for several publications including WIRED, THE GUARDIAN, and HUCK. What do you like most about this type of work? ROB BOFFARD: I discovered quite early on in adult life that I didn’t get along with bosses. It’s not them it’s me. No matter how nice the boss is I always end up feeling a little bit constricted by the working conditions. I wouldn’t have made the move to freelancing if I wouldn’t have gotten fired. I was editing a London music magazine, and I had a massive fallout with the boss. It was mostly because I wasn’t prepared for the role really, and I wasn’t doing a very good job. This situation more or less pushed me into freelancing without really having much of a say i...

The Masterplan (Video Game Review)

There are many heist games right now on Steam, and each one comes with its own unique set of challenges and variety that you have to cope with. The Masterplan is a title that manages to bring you an extraordinary gameplay and other cool mechanics, while also being able to make you feel exactly how it would have been to play the role of a thief in the 1970s. The Masterplan starts off easily, with you trying to get out of jail, but the gameplay difficulty quickly ramps up as you try to find more and more challenging jobs. The title offers a very interesting set of missions that are seamlessly combined into a story that actually makes sense. What makes The Masterplan so interesting is the fact that it allows you to create a plan at all times. You are the only one in control of all characters, and each character has a wide range of interesting skills you can use. I liked that players can accumulate items from the game world, which is a major plus, but at the same time there is...

Warface (Video Game Review)

One of the most common problems of shooters nowadays is that they tend to copy one another and because of that gamers tend to remain with some bland experiences, which is indeed unfortunate. Warface is a game that was created in order to become the ultimate military shooter and even though it does borrow some elements here and there, it’s a solid title with a lot of value. Gameplay Right off the bat, there’s no story in this one, there are just two sides who try to beat each other in the best way they can so they might be able to achieve supremacy. This does lead to some very interesting battles in the end, but overall the game is designed in order to provide you with lots of challenges provide by the human players. The gunplay and sceneries seem taken from CS:GO most of the time, as well as COD, especially the Modern Warfare titles. The guns are pretty much the same like in most modern shooters, which is easy to understand why, as they want to provide a realistic experience. T...

Ronin (Video Game Review)

Many times, platform games tend to focus on skill rather than anything else, and because of that these tend to get quite boring sometimes. Yes, there are situations in which just having a challenge is not enough, instead it’s the way that you place that challenge which makes the experience more interesting, fun and exciting. With this in mind, a person created this game named Ronin. Yes, this is the creation of a single individual, something that has impressed me a lot to be honest. At its core, this is a platform game, but the focus is on stealth and the action is turn based. It might sound a little tricky, but thanks to the excellent in-game tutorial you will be able to understand all the ins and outs of this very intricate, yet truly interesting game. While playing Ronin I felt like a modern day ninja, which scours the game world in order to solve numerous challenges. You will need to hack computers, kill specific targets and do a lot of other cool stuff, which I feel that add...

Elsword (Video Game Review)

Elsword is a fun game that uses the 2.5D mechanics in order to provide you with a very interesting, catchy and appealing beat-em-up that you are going to enjoy. The thing I like about this game the most is the fact that it’s a side scroller, and this does manage to simplify the game mechanics quite a lot. So, the main idea is simple, you traverse the game world from left to right trying to stay alive in the process and you need to engage all the enemies in order to complete a variety of quests. Within Elsword you can find both PVP as well as PVE gameplay, which is really good, but it seems that the main focus is on PVE with the former being left out for quite a lot. Just like most other MMOs, the game is focused specifically on gameplay with the help of role playing elements and a lot of cool classes. You can try to enter guilds if you want or chat with others, and guilds can combat with each other, but for me this resulted in so many people on the screen at the same time that the...

Robocraft (Video Game Review)

Minecraft has managed to create an astounding gameplay with the sole premise that you can build anything you want with the help of cubes. Robocraft is a game that does borrow some elements from the said game although this time you use cubes in order to create one of a kind robot vehicles that you can use, pilot and even engage them in attacks as you see fit. What I liked right from the start about this game is that it’s very solid. It offers a lot of content despite still being in the early access phase and at the same time the core gameplay is ready, so what you play now is quite the same experience when compared to the final release. Creating a robot is my favorite thing because you get to choose how to place the cubes, colors and other cool stuff. The robot creation process can easily take dozens of minutes especially if you have a keen eye for details. This process is great and nicely designed, I feel it’s very good and I can compare it to Sims 4’s character creation when it...

Devil May Cry 4 Special Edition (Video Game Review)

If you’re a fan of technical action combo games then you’ve probably heard of Devil May Cry before. The series has always been known for its smooth gameplay and stylish visuals, putting a clear focus on its combo system as the core gameplay. Devil May Cry 4 originally released back in 2008 to critical reviews and is considered to be the strongest entry in the original series -- which may very well be why so much time was put into creating a Special Edition for Xbox One and Playstation 4. DmC4: Special Edition covers the story of Nero and Dante; two demon-infused men with white hair beating everything around them to death with swords, guns, spectral demon arms and (occasionally) their own fists. For anyone unfamiliar with the story DmC4 isn’t particularly forgiving, as very little time is put into catching up new players to the chaotic mess that is the Devil May Cry world. The opening menu can be even more overwhelming as it offers players the chance to choose between Ner...
